Report of
Extra-ordinary General Meeting
The EGM was held in the club rooms on Sunday 21st
June and I would like to report the main outcomes from the meeting:
-
A
‘caretaker committee’ has been elected with the responsibility to review
the ongoing viability of CTC:
-
For
an interim period, I have been appointed President of CTC. Other
executive positions will be determined at our first meeting of the
general committee and will be communicated at a later date:
-
This
committee will operate with the normal mandate until the Annual General
Meeting is held later in the year. At that point all positions will
again be up for re-election.
In assessing the ongoing viability of the Club, a number
of issues are to be addressed. These include:
a)
Assess the current membership fees to ensure that the
financial viability of the Club is maintained. This assessment will
consider the fee scales for both the immediate period up to the Annual
General Meeting, as well as indicating a direction that can be considered
for adoption by the subsequent committee:
b)
Engage with Yarra Council to address a range of issues that
includes formalising the Club’s use of the Mayors Park facility and
participating as a major stakeholder in the decisions relating to the
management agreement for the coming 3 years:
c)
Develop a succession plan for the caretaker committee to
ensure that a committee will be available to take over post the Annual
General Meeting.
A major outcome of the EGM was consideration of membership
fees for the financial year 2009/10. After assessing the current fee
schedule and the expected expenses of the Club, it has been voted that the
fees will remain unchanged for the coming year. A review of fees
will be undertaken in preparation for the Annual General Meeting in
November.
One change resulting from the meeting will be the
introduction of a competition surcharge where each team will be charged
$100 per season to offset the cost of court usage and lighting during
competition. This surcharge was introduced to ensure that membership fees
remained unchanged and seeks to recover costs from members that generally
have a greater level of facility usage.
While your current membership will expire 30 June,
arrangements have been made to extend this until 31 July. This will allow
sufficient time for you to renew your membership without the current
membership lapsing.
An on-line renewal system is being arranged through Tennis
Victoria which will link in with their player registration system.
Details of how to complete your renewal will be available soon.
It was heartening to see the 22 members that attended the
EGM which is a demonstration of the support for the continued existence
and future growth of the Club. I look forward to working with the
caretaker committee in the coming months to develop a platform and
strategy for the Club to grow as a contributor to the community in the
future. We will advise you of our progress in the coming months and advise
any changes that will be introduced as a result of our discussions with
the Council. We would also welcome any contributions that you may have to
this process.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the
previous committee which worked extremely hard to bring about the
outstanding facility that the Club now has and is a major reason that many
of us have become members in recent years.
In finishing, I look forward to meeting you up at the club
and enjoying the continued existence of CTC.
Regards
Mark Brennan
President
